About

The ethos

Doodad and Fandango is deeply committed to supporting small businesses within Australia’s economic and cultural landscape. By handcrafting art and homewares, the brand celebrates the skill of the artisan while striving to minimize waste. Each piece is a unique creation, designed to spark joy and is designed and made in Darug and Gundungurra country aka the Blue Mountains, about one hour from Sydney. In a world where architecture, interior design, and fashion are increasingly drained of color, D+F believes that surrounding ourselves with vibrant hues and artistic expression can stimulate the imagination and uplift the spirit.

About

The artist

Nikita Majajas, the creative force behind Doodad and Fandango, comes from a family steeped in artistic talent. Her design journey began during a two-year stay in Japan in the late 90s, a place she frequently revisits for inspiration. Upon returning to Australia, she studied fashion design and shoemaking, working in production and costume departments for TV commercials. A chance encounter led her to pursue studies in jewellery and object design, reigniting her passion for creating wearable art. In 2014, Nikita founded Doodad and Fandango, initially handcrafting pop art jewellery before investing in a laser machine that transformed her production process. Her work has since adorned celebrities and been featured in numerous editorials, runway shows, and exhibitions worldwide. In 2023, her designs were showcased in the historic Absolutely Queer exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, coinciding with Sydney World Pride. Now, having relocated to the Blue Mountains during the pandemic, Nikita is excited to expand her focus into art, decor, and homewares—a long-held passion.
